For the eighth straight year, Duke alum and DBP friend Dave McSwain has set up a fantasy league to track the progress of former college stars in the NBA. The league measures the overall production of a school’s alums in the NBA as points are awarded for points scored, field goals, 3′s, assists, rebounds, and blocks. Field goal attempts and turnovers will cost players points as well.
Teams in this year’s fantasy league include Duke, Kentucky, Texas, UNC, UCLA, UConn, Arizona, Florida, Wake Forest, GA Tech, Kansas, Memphis, Ohio State, Stanford and Georgetown. Five days into the season, the Blue Devils lead the pack with Kentucky in second place.
Fans can check the league every morning for quick access to the game stats of Blue Devils who played the night before. Also, although not a perfect science as injuries to key players can derail a school’s progress, the league is a fun way to compare the overall success of college alumni in the NBA.
So far this season, Duke has the lead in part thanks to the outstanding play of Luol Deng and Gerald Henderson. Luol ranks first in average fantasy points per game (38.4) for Duke and G could be on his way to a breakout season ranked second so far (34.9).
