On August 31st, Duke student-athletes were invited to the concourse of Wallace Wade Stadium to hang out and reunite with friends on other teams, meet Duke’s new freshman athletes and play various carnival-style games. The Blue Devil athletes enjoyed a cookout in front of Cameron as well before heading inside the famous arena to hear remarks from Athletic Director Kevin White and watch a highlight video of all of Duke’s teams.
Our team definitely enjoyed the event and was all smiles, with the possible except of Coach Wojo who was dunked repeatedly in the dunk tank. Kyrie showed off his skills by dominating pop-a-shot, Mason and Ryan took turns attempting to dunk Coach Wojo (Mason succeeded after several attempts), and Nolan practiced his short game. The senior captain took a few chip shots before stating he should probably hold off on golf until after his hoops career is over, but that even now his swing is “much prettier than Charles Barkley’s.”
“We are here with all the teams as part of the university,” said Kyrie. “It’s a special event. We get to know everybody. I don’t know everybody yet so this is a great chance.”
