DBP chats with Chris Duhon at his annual hoops camp in Durham
What was your reaction to the 2010 Blue Devils winning the big one?
I thought it was great, it was exciting. I liked following their whole run, seeing them mature and come together as a team. Their confidence just grew each game that they played. They deserved to win it. That was a special group and it was fun to watch them.
Seems like every summer for awhile now you’ve been back here running your camp and I know you do the same in Louisiana where you grew up. What brings you back?
It’s about always giving back. Being from Louisiana, a lot of people there helped get me to Duke. Here, a lot of people helped me get to where I am today. I just want to give these kids the same opportunity and give them hope that it’s possible to do whatever you want if you put your mind to it.
You’ve had a big summer making moves, running your camps and I know you have a wedding coming up. What’s been going on? Give us the rundown.
Yeah, I signed with Orlando and I was very excited to do that and have the opportunity to win an NBA championship. I just bought a new home out there as well. I’ve had my camps, the first-ever celebrity comedy show and that went well. I had the second annual golf tournament and that went well again. And yeah, I am getting married in two weeks and I am really happy about that.
And you are getting married at Duke Chapel right?
Yep, that’s where we met. We met in front of Duke Chapel so that’s where we are going to have the wedding.
You mentioned signing with Orlando. What are your thoughts on joining the Magic?
I am just excited. I am excited to be part of an organization that is focused on winning and has won, every year competing to win the NBA Finals. I feel as though we have the pieces to compete with anybody.
Last question — you and J.J. teamed up on a couple of championship Duke teams here, won a pair of ACC titles and reached the Final Four. What are your thoughts on playing with him again and have you guys been in touch?
He texted me once Orlando matched his deal. He was coming off his honeymoon. We were saying how excited we are to reunite and we are looking forward to connecting again like we did in the past at Duke.
